Review of Pushing the Digital Frontier: Insights into the Changing Landscape of E-Business (Hardcover)

The Wild West days of the dot-com craze are behind us, but e-business strategy remains a largely uncharted frontier. In fact, e-commerce seems more bewildering than ever, now that many of the strategic maxims that the Internet bubble was built on have been proved false. To help you get a handle on the revolutionary technology that has survived the collapse, Nirmal Pal and Judith M. Ray have collected articles by researchers and executives, including many from their home base, the e-Business Research Center at Pennsylvania State University. This anthology constitutes a solid and well-researched book, which has sufficient gravitas (and jargon) for an academic and enough practical information for an entrepreneur. The multiple authors sometimes overlap as they dissect various e-business approaches, but all offer worthwhile ideas. We [...] recommend this book to executives at any company, since Internet technology is now ubiquitous, and distinctions between old economy and New Economy are fast falling by the wayside.

Review of High-Performance Interactive Marketing (Hardcover)

A must read for anyone who either makes or influences marketing decisions. Being a part of an organization that serves both small and medium sized businesses that need integrated marketing solutions, this book is the outline for success. As an avid reader, all too often I see either "Joe Bob's theory on marketing success" or somebody plagiarizing one of the Porter bibles; either way, they're not usable by the average guy. Ryan's book has concise, easy to implement solutions that can be scaled. In today's marketplace where most businesses have between 2 and 10 employee's and make well under a million a year in revenue, business owners need roadmaps that are easy to follow and implementable with the staff that is on hand. Ryan does this well.

Not only would I consider this a must read, I'd say it's one to pick up again and again.

Review of Email Marketing By the Numbers: How to Use the World's Greatest Marketing Tool to Take Any Organization to the Next Level (Hardcover)

The challenge when purchasing "how to" business books is finding the book that fits your level of advancement. A book that's too detailed and advanced is just as useless as one that's too basic and general.

I found "Email Marketing by the Numbers" to be the perfect blend for my organization, Cantaloupe.TV. We've been doing email marketing for about 2 years and for us the book provided a satisfactory introduction to the most important email marketing topics (i.e. if you just focused on and mastered these areas you're well above average) but it also had plenty of information for us to grow into (i.e. we're probably 6-24 months away from implementing many best practices).

If you're already doing Taguchi testing to optimize your email templates, you'll learn something from "By the Numbers" but it's likely not going to take your organization to its "next level"; however, I would still argue it has value for any individual wanting to learn the complete email marketing picture. This book is a fantastic guide, with actionable advice for mastering email marketing best practices.

P.S. My organization does mostly b2b marketing and the fact that the book sometimes uses b2c examples did not detract from the relevancy of the lessons.
